admixture…

etherealism

taken too seriously,
you might even think
something was wrong.

with so many directions
ignored, co-opted by alternative
mediation, medication;
little remains save
experimentation, alongside
repetitious questions vis a vis
how much is too much?

as treatment goals are restated
in didactic score sheets,
the body makes its own
demands for release. salve
is the illusion of peace while
plaintive statements are illustrated
by broken glass and
bits of brick.

resection is a painful preference
despite the best attention, clarity
of wisdom gleaned
from experience but leading
to nothing. take
better notes,
review all the slides,
etc.

mixing varies directions;
spontaneity, jubilation,
elemental existence
without cause or rationale.
brown haired girls who used
to call me in sick to school
while we stayed home
and drank,
every last swallow and inhalation
bringing on a new level
of enjoyment.
simplicity demands the shortest
number of steps from
the door to the couch.

  1. beautiful,
u have put complex substances into a poem,
    which is extraordinary!
    Happy Sunday!
    😉

  2. Thanks Jingle. You have great taste in poets!!! hahahaha hope your weekend is going swimmingly, things are too cold here on the Potomac…

  3. First off, great title. The poem had a stream of consciousness feel recalling experience among sad realizations and fond memories. Deep. Fine work!

    • Glad ya liked it. This is one of those poems I had almost forgotten about until you left the comment, so I owe ya a debt of gratitude for the reminder. I will def. be swinging by your blog tomorrow to see what you have been up to. Always a pleasure, take care and welcome to december (lol)!

  4. I agree with Adam.. I was totally intrigued by the title itself! And then, as I kept reading into the poem, it got deeper and deeper! And yet, essence is quite simple! Just in order to simplify our routine, we have a tendency of complicating our methods… and I think you have elaborated it very beautifully in your poem! A poignant one, this!

    • Nothing better than some occasional intrigue to spice up the day! It is complex to be sure, but I feel there is a very simple architecture to the situation as a well, despite being dressed up in the aforementioned routine are the subtle differences of a new day.

Thanks for reading, and for the ideas on possible new directions to check out. Take care,

      crb.
